| **Roland Pianos come to SAM!** |
The Sussex Academy of Music (SAM) has been given 6 brand new digital pianos, which will be used to enhance tuition at the academy and will also greatly benefit Songfactor, an innovative workshop looking for songwriting talent.
Roland, a world leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of musical instruments, recently decided to endorse the exciting new songwriting workshop which will revolutionise songwriting for aspiring talent. In affiliation with the PRS, Performing Rights Society and with a radio show due to start on Brighton's Juice 107.2 FM, Songfactor will showcase new songwriting talent using the unique atmosphere at the SAM premises to create a dynamic workshop for lyricists and composers.
Roland is providing SAM, based in Shoreham-by-Sea, with six brand new RP-201 digital pianos, to be used by the songwriters for this inspirational workshop. Described by Roland as ‘affordable elegance’ the pianos have a huge amount of exciting new skill building features, like a metronome, recorder and Twin Piano mode, great for side by side student and teacher sessions, and incredibly handy for songwriting duos! These pianos will also be used by tutors and pupils at the academy for most lessons and are a valuable asset, adding to the other instruments provided by Roland, like the two electric TD8 drum kits used for drum lessons. The pianos will be used to promote piano tuition in the area, and will be a vital tool for the accompaniment of the vast range of instruments taught at SAM. Riverside Recording Studio will also use Roland digital mixing and mastering equipment to record and produce the songs written by the apprentices in Songfactor.
Songfactor is the brainchild of David Courtney, whose inspiration derives from New York's Brill Building, in which singer songwriters came together to form songwriting teams including Bacharach & David and Goffin and King. The decision to endorse Songfactor by Roland is a very exciting one for SAM, allowing singer songwriters to work together to create songs that will be showcased on Juice 107.2 FM on a Sunday afternoon and furthermore at regular live showcases to be held at a renowned Brighton venue.
The Sussex Academy of Music will utilise its themed tuition rooms with Roland pianos, Live Room and brand new Riverside Recording Studio with Roland’s M400 and Sonar software, to create an exciting weekly workshop. Aspiring writers will work together in this building to create songs which could potentially reach the charts, an immensely exciting prospect for both the 'apprentices' and putting local talent on the map!
